B. Introduction

The Ph.D. Veterinary Anatomy programme is structured to instil research competence in professionals in the field of veterinary anatomy.

C. Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is to upgrade the research skills of professionals in the area of Veterinary Anatomy, towards developing globally competent manpower in handling contemporary challenges.

D. Aims and Objectives

The programme is aimed at upgrading the research skills of professionals in the area of Veterinary Anatomy. The objectives of the programme are to:

  1. Equip the students/candidates with advanced research skills and competencies to enable them to function effectively and efficiently as lecturers and researchers in Veterinary Anatomy;
  2. Broaden the horizons of veterinary anatomy to include its possible applications in more areas of science and clinical veterinary sciences, and
  3. Produce academically sound, intellectually and morally conscious, and socially responsible researchers in line with the globally accepted norms and ethics.

E.  Admission Requirements

  1. O‘ level credits in five subjects including Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English Language.
  2. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or its equivalent from a recognised institution.
  3. M.Sc. Veterinary Anatomy or its equivalent from accredited institutions across the globe with a minimum weighted average score of 60% or CGPA of 4.0 for a scale of 5.0.

F. Duration of the programme

  1. Full-time programme shall span a minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
  2. Part-time programme shall run for a minimum of 48 calendar months and a maximum of 72 calendar months.

G. Detailed Course Description

VAN 918 Special Problems in Advanced Veterinary Anatomy  2 Credits

A project designed by a candidate aimed at addressing a particular problem in the study of advanced anatomy. 90h (P); C

VAN 920 Seminar I 1 Credit

Seminar/presentation of research proposal by the candidate at the faculty. To be assessed and graded by a panel of examiners during an oral presentation. 45h (P); C

VAN 921 Seminar II 1 Credit

Progress/research finding seminar to be presented by the candidate and assessed and graded by a panel of examiners. 45h (P); C

VAN 922 Seminar III 1 Credit

Progress/research finding seminar to be presented by the candidate and assessed and graded by a panel of examiners. 45h (P); C

VAN 999 Thesis 24 Credits

Production of thesis on the original investigation under the supervision of supervisors and examined by a panel of examiners, including an external examiner. 1080h (P); C

  • Graduation Requirements

To be awarded the Ph.D. degree in Veterinary Anatomy, candidates shall be required to have taken and passed all core courses with a minimum score of 60%. A minimum of 29 credits is required for graduation, including a research thesis. However, candidates found deficient in some courses required for their research work and general knowledge would have courses prescribed for him/her from M.Sc. Veterinary Anatomy programme by the supervisory team. Candidates without such deficiencies must fulfil the following requirements before graduation:
