B. Introduction

The Doctor of Philosophy programme in veterinary anaesthesia is designed for professionals who want a depth understanding and practice of Veterinary anaesthetics in an animal.

C. Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is for the development of in –depth understanding of knowledge and practice of anaesthesia in animals.

D. Aim and Objectives

The aim of the programme is to empower individuals in the management and evaluation of various anaesthetic machines. The objectives are to:

  1. expose professionals to the varied use of agents in producing local, regional and general anaesthesia in animals;
  2. expose the individuals to understanding and assembly of various anaesthetic accessories, and
  3. produce competent professionals who can recognise and manage anaesthetic cries in anaethesized patients.

E. Admission Requirements

  1. ‗O‘ level Credit in 5 subjects including Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English Language.
  2. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or its equivalent from any recognised Institution
  3. Master’s degree in Veterinary Anaesthesiology with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a scale of 5.0 with weighted average of 60% or above from any recognised University.

F.  Duration of the Programme

  1. Full–time programme shall be for a minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
  2. Part–time programme shall be for a minimum of 48 calendar months and a maximum of 72 calendar months.

G. Detailed Course Description

VSR 929 Seminar I 1 Credit

Seminar is presented on the proposed topic of the research. The presentation is evaluated and scored. 45h (P); C

VSR 930 Seminar II 1 Credit

The student presents a seminar on the progress of the research. The presentation is objectively evaluated and suggestions for qualitative improvement of the research are given. 45h (P); C

VSR 931 Seminar III 1 Credit

A pre-defence seminar is presented to evaluate the qualitative outcome of the research. The presentation is scored. 45h (P); C

VSR 999 Thesis 24 Credits

A research thesis in the approved area of study, under the supervision of the committee, written. The work is original and in its contribution to veterinary anaesthesia. 1080h (P); C
