B. Introduction

The programme is basically a research-oriented programme and it is designed to train M.Sc. and M.Phil. graduates who are desirous of acquiring higher qualification in the field of Industrial Chemistry. The Ph.D. programme in Industrial Chemistry exposes students to diverse areas of specialisation such as: medicinal and natural product chemistry, analytical and environmental chemistry, food chemistry, polymer and textile chemistry, among others.

C. Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is centred on producing high level manpower in various areas of specialisation in Industrial Chemistry that will be able to meet up challenging demands of tertiary institutions, research institute and industries.

D. Aim and Objectives

The aim of the programme is to produce students who are able to carry out cutting edge researches in Industrial Chemistry.

Objectives:

  1. producing people with solid background for advanced research in academia, research institutes and industries; and
  2. training manpower on how to design and execute advanced research projects geared towards solving problems in the societies.

E. Admission Requirements

Candidates seeking admission to the Ph. D. programme in Industrial Chemistry are required to have:

  1. ‗O‘ Level Credits passes or their equivalents in five subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.
  2. Master of Science degree in Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry from the University of Ilorin or any other recognised university with a CGPA of 4.00-5.00 or weighted percentage scored of at least 60% or its equivalent in the final Master degree Examination.
  3. Master of Philosophy degree in Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry from the University of Ilorin or any other recognised university who must have scored at least 60% or its equivalent in the final examination.
  4. All such candidates who are successful in the interview conducted by the department.

F. Duration of the Programme

  1. The Full-time programme shall run for a minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
  2. The Part-time programme shall run for a minimum of 48 calendar months and maximum of 72 calendar months.
  3. Candidates may apply for an extension of not more than 24 calendar months after the expiration of the maximum period.

G. Detailed Course Description

ICH 999 Thesis 6 Credits

Candidates will be required to carry out original research and submit a thesis in Industrial Chemistry, on a topic chosen in consultation with their supervisor and approved by the department. 270h (P); C

H. Graduation  Requirements

The Doctor of Philosophy shall be based on research only. The degree shall be awarded on the basis of successful defence of a thesis resulting from original independent research carried out by the student.
