B. Introduction

The Ph.D. Animal Health in Production programme is to instil research competence in professionals in the field of Animal Health in Production.

C. Philosophy

The philosophy of the program is to upgrade the research skills of professionals in the area of Animal Health in Production, towards developing globally competent manpower in handling contemporary challenges.

D. Aim and objectives

The program is aimed at upgrading the research skills of professionals in the area of Animal Health in Production.

The objectives of the programme are to:

  1. Expose students to the current methodology and approach to research in their fields of specialisation; and
  2. Encourage the spirit of independent scientific research based on original ideas to solve problems, making discoveries or breaking new grounds and making original contributions to the field of Animal Health and Production.

E. Admission Requirements

  1. O‘ level credits in five subjects including Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English Language;
  2. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or its equivalent from recognized institutions; and
  3. M.Sc. in Animal Health in Production or its equivalent from accredited institutions across the globe with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a scale of 5.0 with weighted average of 60% or above from any recognised University.

F. Duration of the programme

  1. Full-time programme shall span a minimum of 18 calendar months and a maximum of 24 calendar months.
  2. Part-time programme shall run for a minimum of 24 calendar months and a maximum of 36 calendar months.

G. Detailed Course Description

VAP 911 Seminar I 1 Credit

The candidate will be required to present a pre-research seminar to be assessed and graded by a           panel of examiners during an oral presentation. 45h (P); C

VAP 921 Seminar II 1 Credit

The candidate will be required to present work in progress to be assessed and graded by a panel of examiners. 45h (P); C

VAP 922 Seminar III 1 Credit

The candidate will be required to present a final seminar to be assessed and graded by a panel of examiners. 45h (P); C

VAP 999 Dissertation 24 Credits

The student is required to produce a thesis on the original investigation under the supervision of supervisors. Ph.D candidates are expected to devote their time to comprehensive research in selected areas of Animal Health and Production which will lead to the preparation of a thesis that reflects original contribution to knowledge. Such thesis shall be defended in a final oral examination which shall involve external assessors. The research topics should be based on original ideas and concepts. 1080h (P); C

  • Graduation Requirements

Candidate shall be required to have taken and passed all core courses with a minimum score of 60%. A minimum of 27 credits is required for graduation, including a research thesis. However, candidates found deficient in some courses required for their research work and general knowledge would have courses prescribed for him/her from M.Sc Animal Health in Production programme by the supervisory team. To be awarded the Ph.D degree in Animal Health in Production, a candidate must have fulfilled the following requirements:
