B. Introduction
The programme is meant for candidates who want to take up academic pursuits and research activities at the highest level. It is to update their knowledge and competencies to enable them to take up high-level manpower and managerial posts in their chosen field. The degree is for the development of professional proficiency in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development to the top level through the expansion of the students‘ frontiers of knowledge and the development of their capacity to think through and around problems and generate and communicate practical solutions to the multi-faceted social problems confronting agriculture and rural communities locally and internationally. The degree is for candidates who want to take up academic pursuits and research
activities at the highest level. It also updates their knowledge and competencies to enable them to take up high-level manpower and managerial posts in their chosen field.
C. Philosophy
The philosophy of the programme is the development of high-level manpower to pursue careers in academics and research in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, and the provision of the highest degree of specialisation in the field in the context of expanding knowledge globally and solving real-life problems.

A student seeking admission into the programme must have the following qualifications from recognised institutions:
F. Duration of Programme
i. The Full-time programme shall run for a minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
ii. The Part-time programme shall run for a minimum of 48 calendar months and a maximum of 72 calendar months.

Each student is to present a seminar on an approved topic reflecting the current trend in agricultural extension and rural development. 90h (P); C

AXR 904 Advanced Rural Sociology II 3 Credits

Comparative analysis of various extension teaching methods and their effectiveness.
