Educational planning and Management

Introduction

The programme was designed to train specialists to manage educational system at all levels. It prepares specialists in education planning and administration. It is to equip the students to become competent researcher and made them to demonstrate problem solving capacity through critical innovative and creative thinking.

C.   Philosophy

The philosophy of programme is the provision of professional Educational Management skills to personnels in the field of education who have deficiencies in Educational management tasks.

D.  Aim and Objectives

The aim of the programme is to train the necessary high level manpower required in educational management for the national development.

Objectives:

  1. developing professional expertise of students.
  2. developing knowledgeable scholars who will provide leadership in professional practice and intellectual competence in educational development.
  3. developing competent researchers in educational management theory and practice for the greater benefit of the Nigerian education system.
  4. Preparing education scholars who would teach and provide leadership at different levels of higher education.
  5. producing scholars who would compete with similar scholars from any part of the world and carry out advanced research.
  6. providing assistance for capacity building for graduates involved in teaching, planning and administration of education at various levels.

E.  Admission Requirements

Basic Admission requirements for Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Management Programme: The criteria for admission into the PGDEM programme will be as follows:

  1. ‗O‘ Level Credits or equivalent in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics;
  2. All candidates must have a first degree not lower than second class (lower division) from a recognized University in relevant teaching subjects;
  3. A Higher National Diploma (HND) obtained at credit level may be considered for admission provided the university‘s matriculation requirement are satisfied; and
  4. A Higher National Diploma (HND) obtained at credit level with a 3-year relevant post- qualification experience may be considered for admission.

F.  Duration of the Programme

  1. The Full-time programme shalll run for a minimum of 12 calendar months and a maximum of 24 calendar months.
  2. The Part-time shall run for a minimum of 24 calendar months and a maximum of 36 calendar months.
  3. For extension beyond the maximum period, a special permission of the University Senate shall be required.

Graduation Requirements

To qualify for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Management, a candidate must pass a minimum of 30 Credits and maximum of 36 Credits including all Core and Elective courses.
