B. Introduction
The programme is designed to and expand graduate students‘ general appreciation of the significance of Yoruba language in the life of its speakers in Nigeria, Africa and the Diaspora through teaching and research in higher educational and research institutions.
C. Philosophy
The philosophy of the programme is hinged on the need for integrating students‘ oral and written competence and performance with their analytical skills in the language enterprise.

LIY 881 M.Phil. Protocol 6 Credits
M. Phil. candidates and those who are registered for M.Phil./ Ph.D programme will prepare a protocol for their dissertation, the protocol which will be on a topic in Yoruba language should include normal aspects of a research proposal in addition to budget and plan of implementation, the protocol shall be evaluated for possible upgrading to Ph.D. or to be completed as M. Phil Dissertation. 270h (P); C
LIY 897 M. Phil. Dissertation 12 Credit
An original dissertation written on an area of Yoruba Language shall be written by the M.Phil. candidates.
The topic shall be approved by the Postgraduate School on the recommendation of the department through the faculty. The dissertation must make original contributions in the area of specialization to knowledge. 540h (P); C
LIY 901 Ph.D. Protocol 6 Credits
A protocol on a topic in Yoruba Language shall be prepared by Ph.D. candidates. It includes normal aspects of a research proposal in addition to literature review, budget, implementation plan and other aspects required in Postgraduate School guidelines. The protocol shall be examined by the Department and recommended to Postgraduate School for approval through Faculty Board of Postgraduate Studies. 270h (P); C
LIY 997 Ph.D. Thesis 21Credits
An original thesis written on the area of specialization. The topic which shall be approved by the Postgraduate School on the recommendation of the Department through the Faculty must make original contribution in the area of specialization to knowledge. 945h (P); C
H Graduation Requirements
Every M.Phil./Ph.D. candidate must submit a thesis on a chosen and approved topic, supervised by a member of staff whose qualification is not below the Ph.D., and who is not lower than Senior Lecturer in rank. M.Phil. dissertation and Ph.D. thesis will be defended before an external examiner duly nominated for that purpose and appointed by Senate through the University Postgraduate Board.
