B. Introduction
The programme aims to train Graduate students to conduct research of a high academic standard and to make original contributions to the subject through their thesis. It involves taught coursework and research training, and will not only prepare graduate students to undertake research for their own dissertation, but will also equip them to be able to evaluate research results and reports more widely.
C. Philosophy
The philosophy of the programme is to build a workforce of graduates who would have a comprehensive knowledge of Exercise and Sports Science, embodying an understanding of the theoretical as well as the practical application foundations and the qualitative tools of the areas of specialisation as well as the ability to apply this knowledge to actual problems.
D. Aim and Objectives
The aim of the programme acts as a conversion course taking students at entry from a variety of backgrounds and giving them new skills to enable them to move into research and employment in a number of disciplines and/ area of specialisation.
Objectives:
providing students the opportunity to have a comprehensive understanding in Exercise and Sports Science diverse areas; and Offering students the opportunity to remediate in areas of shortfalls during their Master‘s programme.
E. Admission Requirements
The criteria for admission into M.Phil./Ph.D. programme in Exercise and Sports Science are as follows:
All candidates must have a Master degree in any relevant area of specialization in Human Kinetics Education with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 or 60% or 55-50%
In all cases, candidates may be expected to undergo a selection process involving tests or interviews.
The Postgraduate School matriculation requirements must be satisfied.
Candidates who score between 55-59.9% cumulative grade in their Master degree programme may be offered admission into M.Phil./Ph.D. programme. Such candidate may proceed to Ph.D. programme after he might have presented a research protocol with minimum score of 60% and a seminar paper after four months of entry into the programme.
F. Duration of the Programme
The Full-time programme shall run for a minimum of 12 calendar months or less when student meets the criteria for approval of conversion into Ph.D. Any student who could not meet the criteria would have to complete the M.Phil. degree and then re-apply for Ph.D.
