B. Introduction
This programme is meant for candidates who want to take up academic pursuits and research activities at the highest level but could not make a Ph.D. grade at the end of their Master Programme. It is a purely research-oriented programme to remedy the deficiency at the Master‘s level.
C. Philosophy
The philosophy of the programme is the development of high level manpower to pursue careers in academics and research. It is to provide the highest degree of specialisation in Animal Science in the context of expanding knowledge globally and solving real life problems.
D. Aim and Objectives
The programme is aimed at advanced level training of students for future careers in teaching and research at the tertiary level and research and development in the public and private sector.

E. Admission Requirements
Candidates seeking admission into the programme must have an academic Master degree in Animal Production with CGPA of 3.50 – 3.99 or 55 – 59.5% (Average score) from a recognized institution.
F. Duration of the Programme
The programme shall run for a period of 12 calendar months.
G. Detailed Course Description
ANP 881 Seminar 2 Credits
Each student will present a seminar on any topic on the current issue in the field of animal production guided by academic staff in the department. 90h (P); C
ANP 899 Dissertation 16 Credits
Original investigation into an approved Animal Production constraint under the supervision of an approved supervisor(s). 720h (P); C
H. Graduation Requirements
The programme consists of dissertation and seminars on special topics. To be qualified for conversion to the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Animal Production, a candidate must have passed a minimum of 18 Credits made up of the following:
