B. Introduction

The MPhil/Ph.D. degree programme in Anatomy is to impact cutting-edge skills and knowledge to qualified persons, and by so doing, produce highly skilled teaching and research personnel at the highest level of the anatomical and biomedical sciences who can practice globally.

C. Philosophy

The philosophy of the MPhil/Ph.D. degree programme in Anatomy is the provision of advanced training of highly skilled and globally competitive professionals in the anatomical sciences, as well as to promote critical, analytical and creative skills relating to biomedical research.

D. Aim and Objectives

The MPhil/Ph.D. degree programme in Anatomy aims at training highly skilled research scientists that will contribute to, and advance the frontiers of knowledge and research in the ever-evolving fields of morphological sciences. The objectives of the programme are to:

  1. ensure that graduates have cutting-edge skills and competences required to conduct research that will expand the knowledge of anatomical science and improve human health;
  2. enable graduates to initiate and implement plans for the development of technologies of benefit to the health and well-being of the society; and
  3. develop ability for critical reasoning and thinking; as well as develop expertise in scientific writing and publication.

E. Admission Requirements

Candidates are required to possess the following:

  1. O‘ level credit passes or its equivalents in English, mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics;
  2. a first degree with a minimum of second class lower in Anatomy, Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, Zoology, and Physiotherapy; and
  3. Master‘s degree from a recognized University, with a score between 55.0 to 59.9% or its equivalent. In addition, candidates are required to satisfy the Faculty and Departmental Postgraduate Board at a placement screening exercise.

F. Duration of the Programmes

  1. The full-time MPhil programme shall run for six to twelve (6 – 12) months. Following a successful second presentation, a conversion is made to a full-time Ph.D. programme.

G. Detailed Course Description

The course shall be as prescribed below.

ANA 899 Dissertation 10 credits

Research work in the candidate‘s area of interest presented in a report (Dissertation) and examined orally before a Panel of Examiners.

H. Graduation Requirements

The candidate will convert to a Ph.D degree programme to obtain the award of the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Anatomy, following satisfying the prerequisites as stated under the Ph.D. programme.
