B. Introduction
The programme is meant for candidates who want to take up academic pursuits and research activities at the highest level but could not make a Ph.D. grade at the end of their Master’s Programme. It is a purely research-oriented programme to remedy the deficiency at the Master level.
C. Philosophy
The programme is the development of high-level manpower to pursue careers in academics and research. It is to provide the highest degree of specialisation in a particular field in the context of expanding knowledge globally and solving real-life problems.
D. Aim and Objectives
The aim of the programme is to advance the level of training of students for future careers in teaching and research at the tertiary level and research and development in the public and private sectors.

E. Admission Requirements
Candidates seeking admission into the programme must have the following qualifications from recognised institutions: Master’s degree in Agronomy or related disciplines with a CGPA below 4.0 out of a sacle of 5.0 or less than 60.00% average weighted grade point.

AGY 881 Seminar 2 Credits
Each student should present a seminar on current issues in the field of Agronomy guided by academic staff in the department. 90h (P); C
AGY 899 Dissertation 16 Credits
Each student should submit a dissertation on a topic approved by the department. 720h (P); C
H. Graduation Requirements
The programme consists of dissertation and seminars or special topics. To be awarded the degree, a candidate must have fulfilled the following conditions:
i Passed a Minimum of 18 Credits
Dissertation 16 Credits
Seminar 2 Credits
Total 18 Credits
ii. Carried out research relevant to the area of specialisation and submitted an acceptable dissertation.
