The programmme may be defined as a systematic process of persuading people to adopt behaviours that are beneficial to their health and to reject those that are detrimental. The process is usually based on sound educational theories, principles and practices. The goals of this programme are to increase public awareness, appreciation and understanding, motivation and skills necessary to improve public health practices of the public. The challenge for public health education in this country is the establishment of public health education programmes with appropriate and relevant content, presented in such a way as to motivate the individual and meet public health aspirants of the society. This is our mission.
C. Philosophy
The philosophy of the programme was designed as a terminal degree in Health Education for person who did not have undergraduate training in Health Education but with a strong career or professional interest in Health Promotion. To advance to the Ph.D. in Health Education after attainment of the MPHE, the candidate would have meet all the requirements of the regular M. Sc.(Ed) programme in Health Education by correcting deficiencies and presenting an acceptable research Dissertation to the Departmental Board of postgraduate studies.
D. Aim and Objectives
The general objectives of postgraduate in master of public health education is to prepare committed students in public health education who would be able to function effectively in Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs), tertiary education institutions, safety department in industries and other establishments in the public setting;
It is expected that a graduate of this programme will be able to function as a resource person in any of these establishments and other relevant areas in the public domain.

Withdrawal Condition for M.PHE students
A student who is unable to pass 15 Credits at the end of the session would be advised to withdraw from the programme.
M.PHE Degree Requirements
A candidate in the M.PHE programme must register for and pass thirty three credit hours of M.PHE courses with a minimum pass mark of 50%. Furthermore, the candidate must write a dissertation whose proposal shall be successfully defended before a panel of Departmental board of postgraduate internal examiners.

RME 803 Statistical Methods in Educational Research 2 Credits
Review of fundamentals of statistics and their application. Basic concepts of statistical models: distribution, probability, random variables, tests of hypotheses, confidence intervals, regression, correlation and analysis of variance and co- variance as applied in educational research. 30h (T); C

HEP 841 Philosophical Foundation of Health Education 3 Credits
Focus on the concepts and issues surrounding disease prevention and heath promotion at both the micro and macro levels. Analysis of historical, legal, scientific, educational, psychological, sociological and anthropological foundations. Focuses on the application of community based epidemiology principles to understand the health problems of the community. Stresses and interrelationship between community and epidemiological data: dearth, birth, morbidity rates and the health of the community. Content: collection and analysis of epidemiology data. HEP 843 Contents in Public Health Education 3 Credits
Detailed study of two cognate areas in health education. Student selects two areas of academic interest and critically study them under the supervision of the facilitator. It is anticipated that one of these two areas would be strongly related to the final dissertation and should be related to the student‘s primary job or occupational aspiration. Those coming into the programme from the federal road safety corps, for example, will be required to take an in-depth study of safety education and one other area. 45h (T); E

Techniques for the construction and management of public health messages. Public speaking and writing. Poster preparation. Handbill. Preparing health related information for public media. Analysis of based theories and practices in public health education. Theories of health behavior. Target for change. Relationship between theory and practice. Students will spend one full day week over an academic year in public health education related setting: FEPA, NAFDAC, FRSC, they will study the activities of the establishment, identify health promotion problem areas and assign an intervention strategy which they will also implement. HEP 879 Dissertation 5 Credits
Selection of a dissertation title under the guidance of a supervisor and presentation of the completed dissertation report. 225h (P); C
The programme consists of Course work, Seminars and Dissertation presentation on a topic approved by the supervisor. Candidate must have taken and passed both the core and the selected elective courses with a score of not less than 50%. Candidate must also to have presented and defended both the MPHE seminar and dissertation to the satisfaction of a panel of internal examiners. The final dissertation must have been found satisfactory for the award of Master of Public Health Education degree by a panel of internal and external examiners. To be awarded Master of Public Health Education degree, a candidate must have fulfilled the following conditions.
