B.  Introduction

The Master of Education (M.Ed) in Religious Studies Education is appropriate for Religious Studies educators seeking advanced knowledge and skills in Religious Studies Education. This degree is appropriate for teaching in relevant higher educational institutions which produce Religious Studies teachers.

C. Philosophy

The philosophy of the M.Ed programme in Religious Studies Education is to educate at an advanced level, teachers in Religious Studies to have higher skills to teach, research and practice at various levels of education.

D.  Aim and Objectives

The aim of M.Ed programme in Religious Studies Education is to equip the students with relevant knowledge, research competence, professional skills and attitudes to effectively function and practice as high level manpower in the discipline. The objectives of M. Ed programme in Nigerian Language Education are to:

  1. develop professional expertise of students;
  2. develop knowledgeable scholars who will provide leadership in professional practice and intellectual competence in education;
  3. produce educators who are knowledgeable in and committed to the implementation of National Policy on Education;
  4. develop competent researchers in educational theory and practice for the Nigeria education system;
  5. empower educators who can propel social change through education both intellectually, in attitudes, skills, values and worldviews.

E.  Admission Requirements

Candidates for the Master degree in Religious Studies Education must have the following:

  1. ‗O‘ Level credits or its equivalent in five (5) subjects including English language and Mathematics.
  2. a first degree honours in Education with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division.
  3. a first degree honours in any other disciplines with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division plus Postgraduate Diploma in Education from a recognized University obtained at Credit Level.
  4. qualifying Examination for all except candidates with First Class and Second Class Upper Divisions from University of Ilorin
  5. evidence that they meet the matriculation requirements of the University of their choice. Evidence of NYSC discharge certificate or exemption/exclusion.

F. Duration of the Programme

  1. The Full-time Master degree in Religious Studies Education shall run for a minimum of 18 calendar months and a maximum of 24 calendar months.
  2. The Part-time programme shall run for a minimum of 24 calendar months and maximum of 36 calendar months.
  3. For extension beyond the maximum period, a special permission of the University Senate shall be required.

Types of research, methods and data: types of instruments, types of procedures for data collection, methods of data analysis, application of computer in data analysis, meaning and results of statistical analysis. 45h (T); C


RME 802    Statistical Methods in Educational Research     2 Credits

Review of basic statistical concepts; descriptive, parametric, inferential and non- parametric statistics, t-statistic, ANOVA, ANCOVA, regression analysis, chi- square and statistical techniques for post-hoc analysis, application of computer in statistical analysis, meaning and results of statistical analysis. 30h (T); C

RME 805   Educational Measurement and Test Construction   3 Credits

Measurement: scale and scaling models theory of measurement error, test construction procedures, item writing, analysis and assembly in achievement, aptitude and non-cognitive tests, reliability and validity of tests, practical work in test construction. 45h (T); E
