The programme is daily becoming one of the essential aspects of life that has become imperative to develop and train high level manpower at post graduate levels required for optimal health. Trends in public health care and health education have shown that the health of individual members of the community can no longer be left in the hands of government and non- governmental agencies, but in the care of skilled individuals who must take charge of their health, families and that of the community. The current climb of the University of Ilorin in the national and international limelight and its unique position geographically and politically makes it more important to run a postgraduate programme in Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education. The programmes are domiciled in the Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education.
C. Philosophy
The philosophy of the programme is designed to provide opportunity for intensive study and attainment of specific competencies needed for effective teaching and research. The programmes are further designed to prepare professionally qualified teachers and researchers in Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education. In view of entrepreneurship emphasis of the government, the programme are being shaped to guarantee that offerings lead to entrepreneur endeavors by beneficiaries
D. Aim and Objectives
The programme has the following aims and objectives:
promotion of desirable health practice among school children and in all levels of education through their teachers;
producing teachers who have the competence to handle and coordinate all activities of the health programmes;
producing teachers who have the competence to handle and cater for the health needs of the disabled;
producing individuals with advanced knowledge and skills in health promotion and environmental health education; and
producinng high level manpower with appropriate skills in health intervention and advocacy in tackling mirage of communicable and non-communicable diseases that affect man.

The programme consists of Course work, Seminars and Dissertation presentation on a topic approved by the supervisor. Candidate must have taken and passed both the core and the selected elective courses with a score of not less than 50%. Candidate must also to have presented and defended both the M.Ed. seminar and dissertation to the satisfaction of a panel of internal examiners. The final dissertation must have been found satisfactory for the award of Master of Education degree by a panel of internal and external examiners. To be awarded Master of Education (M.Ed.) in health Education, a candidate must have passed a minimum of 30 Credits.
