B. Introduction

The Ph.D. programme is meant exclusively for candidates who want to excel in the management of clinical cases with an in-depth research problems in animals based on current research topics. A Ph.D. research will lead to an assessed outcome of a dissertation.

C. Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is the development of high level man power to pursue careers in academics and research and the provision of the highest degree of specialization in Veterinary Medicine in the context of expanding knowledge globally and solving real life problems.

D. Aim and Objectives

The program is aimed at upgrading the research skills of professionals in the area of Veterinary Medicine. The objectives of the programme are to:

  1. Equip students with research skills through the conduct of supervised research seminar and thesis presentations; and
  2. Provide training for those whose future careers in teaching and research at the tertiary level and in research and development in the public and private sectors.

E. Admission Requirements

  1. O. level credits in five subjects including Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English Language.
  2. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or its equivalent from recognised institutions.
  3. M.Sc. Veterinary Medicine or its equivalent from accredited institutions across the globe with a minimum weighted average score of 60% or CGPA of 4.0 on a scale of 5.0 or 5 out of 7.

F.  Duration of the programme

  1. Full-time programme shall span a minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
  2. Part-time programme shall run for a minimum of 48 calendar months and a maximum of 72 calendar months.

G.  Detailed Course Description

VMD 990  Seminar I 1 Credit

Seminar/presentation of research proposal by candidate at the department on any topic relevant to respective disciplines under the supervision of an academic staff in the department. To be assessed and graded by a panel of examiners during oral presentation. 45h (P); C

VMD 992 Seminar II 1 Credit

Progress/research finding seminar to be presented by the candidate at the department on topic relevant to respective disciplines under the supervision of an academic staff in the department. To be assessed and graded by a panel or examiners during oral presentation. 45h (P); C

VMD 993 Seminar III 1 Credit

Post data finding seminar to be presented by the candidate at the Department/Faculty on topic relevant to respective disciplines under the supervision of an academic staff in the department. To be assessed and graded by a panel of examiners during oral presentation. 45h (P); C

VMD 999  Thesis 24 Credits

Original and independent research project in any areas of Veterinary Medicine under the supervision of an approved Supervisor(s). 1080h (P); C

  • Graduation Requirements

Candidate shall be required to have taken and passed all core courses with a minimum score of 50%. A minimum of 27 credits is required for graduation, including a research thesis. However, candidates found deficient in thesis from research work and general knowledge would be given opportunity to re-present his /her research by the supervisory team.
